India’s Top Order Crumbles
The early breakthrough came in the 6th over when Indian captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 6 runs off 19 balls. Mahmud bowled a perfect length delivery that edged off Rohit’s bat and was caught by Najmul Hossain Shanto at second slip, leaving India at 14/1.
Shubman Gill, batting at number 3, was the next to fall. He was dismissed without scoring, trying to flick a leg-side delivery, only to get a faint edge. Wicketkeeper Liton Das made a swift move to his left, taking an easy catch and leaving India at 28/2.
Virat Kohli, who came in to stabilize the innings, also fell victim to Mahmud’s sharp bowling. In the 10th over, Kohli was lured into a drive, resulting in a slight outside edge caught by Liton Das. Kohli departed for 6 runs off 6 balls, leaving India in deep trouble at 34/3.
India’s Battle to Recover
With key batters back in the pavilion, India faces a significant challenge to recover from the early setbacks against Bangladesh’s relentless bowling attack led by Mahmud. At the time of writing, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal remains at the crease, scoring 20 runs off 37 balls. He is joined by Rishabh Pant, who is making his first Test appearance since December 2022 against Bangladesh and is currently batting at 8 runs off 11 balls.
Social Media Reacts
India’s top-order collapse sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with fans sharing memes and comments on the unexpected turn of events in the match.
The day’s play continues, and India will need a strong partnership to stabilize their innings and mount a comeback against a confident Bangladesh team.
