Rohit Sharma dropped as ODI captain as Shubman Gill takes charge for Australia series, Shreyas Iyer returns as deputy

The BCCI on Saturday announced India’s squads for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Australia, starting October 19, 2025.

The three ODIs are scheduled to be played in Sydney, Adelaide, and Melbourne between October 19 and 25 and will be followed by a five-match T20 series.

While Suryakumar Yadav continues to lead the T20 side, Shubman Gill has officially replaced Rohit Sharma as India’s ODI captain, signalling a new era in Indian cricket.


Gill, who has been groomed as a future leader over the past year, will take charge of a formidable ODI squad featuring the return of Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, the latter making a comeback as vice-captain.

Meanwhile, India's star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the ODI leg of the tour to manage his workload, while promising left-hander Yashasvi Jaiswal has been recalled to the 50-over setup after a string of consistent performances in T20 internationals.
