India one wicket away from victory
England fought tooth and nail to save the third Test at Trent Bridge with Jos Buttler (106) scoring his maiden century. Though the match is out of their bounds, thanks to Jasprit Bumrah’s five-wicket haul, the hosts managed to take the match into fifth day with just one wicket separating India from victory. England were 311 for 9 at stumps on Day 4.

Chasing a nearly unachievable target of 521, England lost their first wicket as early as in the first over of the day when Ishant Sharma dismissed Keaton Jennings. Ishant struck again in his next over to dismiss Alastair Cook and reduced the hosts to 32 for 2.

England’s hopes were further reduced when they lost two more in the form of captain Joe Root and Ollie Pope to be four wickets down for just 62 runs. Just when India seemed to be on course to wrap things up quickly, Buttler joined hands with Ben Stokes (62) and shared a 169-run stand for the fifth wicket to give some respect to their fight.

The duo didn’t just keep Indian bowlers at bay, they also dominated the proceedings with some aggressive batting. It took Bumrah’s twin strikes on consecutive balls to end the resistance.
