Ahmedabad Test: Ravindra Jadeja's three-wicket haul puts West Indies in trouble
India crushed West Indies by an innings and 140 runs on the third day of the opening Test of the two-match series in Ahmedabad on Saturday. West Indies, who made 162 in their first innings, were bowled out for 146 in the second innings by India, who had declared their first innings at 448 for five.

Alick Athanaze (38) and Justin Greaves (25) offered brief resistance, but India maintained relentless pressure throughout. Ravindra Jadeja, who had struck a hundred in the first innings, backed up his batting heroics with 4-54 with the ball.

Earlier, after dismissing West Indies for 162 in the first innings, India declared at their overnight score, leading by 286 runs. For the second time in the match, the West Indies top order crumbled against India’s incisive bowling, aided by sharp fielding. Nitish Kumar Reddy, stationed at square leg, dived to his left to take a stunning catch off Tagnarine Chanderpaul, who had pulled Mohammed Siraj.

Jadeja delivered successive blows to rattle the visitors. Alongside Mohammed Siraj, he scythed through the West Indies batting line-up, securing a commanding innings and 140-run victory on the third day. India declared at 448 for five overnight and then bowled out the Windies for a mere 146 in 45.1 overs.

Siraj (3/31) and Jadeja (4/54) were India’s main bowlers, with Siraj completing a seven-wicket match haul, continuing his fine form. Athanaze and Greaves were the top scorers for the visitors, but their contributions could not avert defeat.

This match marked the first home Test in 15 years for India without Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin, all of whom retired over the past season. Their last home appearance, against New Zealand in October last year, had ended in a 3-0 loss for India. West Indies has not beaten India in 25 Tests, home or away, since 2002.
