Chasing 95 to win, Yashaswi Jaiswal followed up his first innings half century with 51, while Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 29 as India chased the target in 17.2 overs.
Earlier today, Bangladesh managed to add just 120 runs to their overnight score of 26/2 before being bowled out for 146. Other than opener Shadman Islam (50) and Mushfiqur Rahim (37), none of the other Bangladeshi batters managed to hang around on Day 5.
Jasprit Bumrah, R Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja picked three wickets each to restrict Bangladesh to a modest total.
Rain affected encounter
Team India forced a result after Day 2 and Day 3 were washed out due to rain and wet outfield. On Day 1, only 35 overs were bowled. In just 34.4 overs, India declared at 285-9, taking a lead of 52 runs. In the process, the team broke the world records for the fastest 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 in Test cricket. Opener Yashaswi scored a brisk 72, while KL Rahul scored a quickfire 68. There were also contributions from Kohli (47), Shubman Gill (39), and Rohit Sharma (23).
Bangladesh lost two more wickets before the end of Day 4. Under pressure on Day 5, the visitors started and lost just one wicket in the first hour. However, Jadeja and Bumrah ran through the batting and bowled them out before lunch.
India maintained their top spot on the World Test Championship points table, aiming to play their third straight final in England in June 2025.
