India's Yashasvi Jaiswal bats on the second day of the first cricket test between Australia and India in Perth, Australia.
Yashasvi Jaiswal makes a stunning comeback on Day 2 after a heartbreaking duck on the previous day, having scored half-a-ton in the second innings of the Perth Test.

The 22-year-old opener has set yet another new record, surpassing the milestone set by India head coach, Gautam Gambhir, 16 years ago.

Jaiswal now holds the record of scoring the most runs by an Indian left-handed batter in a calendar year.

Jaiswal surpassed Gambhir's 2008 total of 1134 runs. As of Saturday, Jaiswal has accumulated over 1161 runs in Test matches in 2024, averaging 55.28 with seven fifties and two centuries.

Jaiswal's performance in the Perth Test followed a contrasting first innings where he was dismissed for a duck. However, in his second innings, he contributed a crucial 42 runs off 88 balls, helping India build a substantial lead of 130 runs by tea.

This year, Jaiswal has been a standout performer for India in Test cricket. His remarkable run began during the England series, where he amassed more than 700 runs, including two double centuries. He currently holds the second-highest run total in Test matches this year, trailing behind England's Joe Root, who has 1338 runs
