Once again, Reddy came to the crease when the team was in trouble after Rishabh Pant was dismissed and the scorecard read 191/6 while chasing a first innings score of 474. The threat of follow-on loomed on the Indian team.
However, it was Reddy's temperament and application that not only got him his first Test half-century but also avoided a follow-on.
Reddy lofted a full delivery off pacer Mitchell Starc over the vacant point region and the ball raced away to the boundary to reach his maiden half-century in Test cricket.
After reaching the landmark, Reddy did the Pushpa (Indian movie) "Thaggede le" celebration with his bat, evoking laughter and admiration from the legendary Sunil Gavaskar.

India were 326/7 at tea on Saturday after a 105 run partnership between Reddy and Washington Sundar.
India started Day 3 on the backfoot after having lost three wickets in the last 20 minutes of day 2 to be reduced to 164/5. Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant could not bat as long as the team would have liked in the morning.
