India lifted the ICC Under-19 World Cup for record 6th time

India defeated England by 100 runs in the ICC Under-19 World Cup final on Friday to lift the trophy for a record sixth time.

After opting to bat first, India rode on a sensational, record-breaking knock from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who smashed 175 off just 80 balls, including 15 fours and 15 sixes. Captain Ayush Mhatre played a steady hand with a 53 off 51 balls, while Abhigyan Kundu chipped in with a brisk 40 off 31 deliveries to power India to a massive 411 for 9.

In response, England lost an early wicket and, after reaching 142 for 2, slipped to 177 for 7 as India’s bowlers tightened their grip. Despite some resistance, England were eventually bowled out for 311 in 40.2 overs, handing India a comprehensive 100-run victory.

Sooryavanshi’s innings was historic, as his 175 became the highest individual score by any batter in an ICC tournament final. The teenager, who rose to prominence during last year’s Indian Premier League, dominated the English attack with fearless strokeplay.

The triumph further cements India’s dominance in Under-19 cricket. The 2026 title adds to their earlier victories in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018 and 2022. The title-winning side was led by Ayush Mhatre, who became the latest captain to guide India to Under-19 World Cup glory. The final was played at the Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe.
