The International Cricket Council (ICC) has named six Indian players in its 'Team of the Tournament' for the recently concluded T20 World Cup, but star batter Virat Kohli, despite his match-winning performance in the final, did not make the cut. Kohli, who adapted to a new role as an opener, had a subdued tournament overall but shone brightly in the final against South Africa, scoring a pivotal 76 runs off 59 balls and earning the man-of-the-match title.

India clinched their second T20 World Cup title in a dramatic fashion, overcoming South Africa by seven runs in the final with a sensational performance in the death overs, marking their first win in 17 years.

The ICC's chosen XI includes Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and pace bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh. Rohit Sharma led the team with distinction, amassing 257 runs at a striking rate of 156.7, making him the second-highest run-scorer behind Afghanistan's Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Bumrah, awarded Player of the Tournament, was instrumental with his 15 wickets and an impressive economy rate of 4.17, the best in a single edition of the men's T20 World Cup.

Afghanistan's remarkable performance saw three of their players included in the ICC team: left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi, joint top wicket-taker with Arshdeep Singh at 17 wickets each, wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who led the tournament in runs with 281, and their captain, leg-spinner Rashid Khan, who took 14 wickets and maintained an economy rate of 6.17.

The team was rounded out by Marcus Stoinis of Australia and Nicholas Pooran from co-hosts West Indies. Notably, runners-up South Africa did not have a player in the XI, although pacer Anrich Nortje was named as the 12th man. Nortje had a standout tournament, starting with an outstanding 4/7 against Sri Lanka and consistently taking wickets in all but one match, culminating in his final figures of 2/26 in the championship match.

ICC Team of The Tournament

Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh (all Indians); Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Rashid Khan, Fazalhaq Farooqi (Afghanistan); Marcus Stoinis (Australia) and Nicholas Pooran (West Indies); 12th man: Anrich Nortje.
