ICC T20 WC points table: Take a look at the Super 8 group ranking after New Zealand’s 61-run win over SL

In a thrilling Super 8 encounter, New Zealand defeated co-hosts Sri Lanka by 61 runs, knocking the home side out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Chasing a target of 168, Sri Lanka struggled to build momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals and failing to keep up with the required run rate.

New Zealand’s innings was boosted by a late blitz from Mitchell Santner and Cole McConchie, who stitched together an 84-run partnership, taking the total to a competitive 168/7. Early strikes from Matt Henry and Santner put Sri Lanka on the back foot, making the chase difficult from the start.

Sri Lanka’s response never got going. Key wickets fell quickly, including Pathum Nissanka, Charith Asalanka, and Kamindu Mendis. Lower-order resistance from Dunith Wellalage, who scored 29 off 23 balls, proved insufficient. Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, and Matt Henry ensured New Zealand remained in control throughout the innings.
