Hockey India CEO Elena Norman quits

Hockey India CEO Elena Norman has resigned after nearly 13 years in her role, according to the federation's official statement.

Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey commended Elena's leadership as CEO, expressing gratitude for her time and dedication and wishing her success in her future endeavours.

"I would like to express my gratitude for Elena’s time and dedication. Not only as the President of Hockey India but also as a former player and avid hockey enthusiast, I want to formally acknowledge and extend my sincere gratitude for her remarkable contributions over the last 12–13 years," Dr. Tirkey said.


"Her dedication and efforts have played a pivotal role in propelling Hockey India and Indian hockey to the commendable position they hold today. I wish her great success in all her future endeavours."

Under her leadership, the Indian men's and women's hockey teams achieved career-best world rankings and a historic bronze medal by the men's at the Tokyo Olympics, ending a 41-year drought.

During her tenure, Hockey India also hosted the FIH Men's Hockey World Cup, the FIH Junior Men's World Cup, and the Hockey India League, enhancing the performance of the Indian Men's Hockey Team.

Elena played a key role in promoting women's hockey, offering equal facilities and cash awards for outstanding performances in international events through the Hockey India Annual Awards.

She played a pivotal role in the women's team's historic 2016 Rio Olympics qualification, marking the first time the team participated in the Olympics after 36 years.

As CEO, she also initiated the Hockey India Coaches Education Pathway, providing domestic coaches with global coaching standards and promoting initiatives for Indian technical and match officials.
