The ton takes Rohit Sharma's total number of ODI centuries to 33. Earlier, Australia won the toss and opted to bat, extending India’s streak of toss losses in ODIs to 18 consecutive matches. Despite this, India fought back strongly in the field to bowl out the hosts for 236.
India’s bowling was led by Harshit Rana, who claimed four wickets, while Axar Patel and Washington Sundar kept the middle overs tight and chipped in with crucial dismissals. Australia had started well, with Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head adding 61 for the first wicket, but disciplined bowling and sharp fielding brought them back into the game.
Virat Kohli took a fine reflex catch at backward point to dismiss Matthew Short, but the standout moment belonged to Shreyas Iyer. Running from point, Iyer timed his dive perfectly to catch Alex Carey, though he hurt his left side in the process.
Axar Patel also made an impact by removing Marsh with a delivery that breached the batsman’s defence. Matt Renshaw fought hard for Australia, scoring 56, but India’s bowlers ensured the hosts could not build consistent partnerships.
