The duo defeated the Italian pair of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori by 7-6(0) 7-5 in the men's doubles finale.
The road to the last mile for Bopanna with his Australian partner Matthew Ebden was after prevailing in a tense semifinal against Tomas Machac and Zhang Zhizhen.
Earlier this week, the Indo-Australian pair faced strong opposition in third set in the semifinals, but their Super Tie Breakers experience helped them win with a 6-3 3-6 7-6 (10-7) scoreline.
Bopanna has made it to the US Open final twice (in 2013 and 2023), but he has never won a major championship. But the legend ticked that box today, as he approaches the tail end of his career at the age of 43.
Starting the Australian Open with a career-best ranking of No. 3, Bopanna is now the oldest to win a Grand Slam men's doubles.
