The state government on Thursday decided to resume cricket matches at Chinnaswamy stadium subject to certain conditions in the interest of safety of cricket fans, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said.

The government had suspended matches, including the IPL series, after 11 people lost their lives in the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team’s IPL victory celebrations event in Bengaluru on June 4, last year.

Shivakumar told media persons that the stadium would be asked to sell tickets against the available capacity, install large gates to enable quicker exits and deploy ambulances at the site. The permission to resume matches comes with the pre-condition that the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) must comply with Justice Michael D’Cunha’s committee recommendations.

This is welcome news for cricket fans. “We have already lost events but would be careful in future,” the Dy CM said
