Delhi Government has suggested the government-aided schools to participate in the second edition of the School Football League from August 19-November 7.

NEW DELHI: With an aim to promoting sports in educational institutions, Delhi Government has suggested the government-aided schools to participate in the second edition of the School Football League from August 19-November 7.

The competition will be held for students between the age group of 14-17 to empower underprivileged youth of the country through sports .

"It is stated that STAIRS-a non-government, non-profit oranisation, intends to conduct second edition of School Football League in Delhi from August 19-November 7, for empowering the underprivileged youth of India through sports.

"...If any government/government aided school team intends to participate in the above stated School Football League, then, they can do so at no cost to the government," Sports Branch of the Directorate of Education said in a circular sent to the schools.

Olympic medallist wrestler Sushil Kumar who is an Officer on special duty (OSD) in the Sports Department, Delhi, said, "such sporting initiatives are much needed in our country as they not only help in overall personality development of children, but also act as a podium for talented players to pursue career in sports."
