Google CEO Sundar Pichai surprised fans by entering the commentary box on Day 3 of the final Test between India and England at the Oval on Saturday.

Pichai joined veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle during play for a brief yet memorable stint behind the mic. The Google CEO shared his childhood memories of cricket.

Pichai has admitted in the past that he is a cricket enthusiast and was in the box when, interestingly, Washington Sundar launched a counter-attack on the England bowlers to shift the momentum and extend the lead for India. It was Sundar who was batting and Sundar who was commentating on the vital innings.

The tech executive impressed with his composure and timing, when he paused commentary during deliveries and offering thoughtful insights on the game and the series.

“I’m sitting next to the best,” he quipped, acknowledging Bhogle’s compliment on his natural ease behind the mic.

Talking about the series, Pichai was impressed by the intensity and competitiveness of both sides. “What a series it’s been. Loved the fight between both teams. At this point, I’d put money on a 2-2,” he said, predicting India to level the series with a win in the decider.

Pichai also talked about his childhood days where he had posters of legends like Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar in his bedroom.

"Gavaskar was the big one (poster) and I was a big Sachin fan. I really used to enjoy watching him bat," Pichai said.

Bhogle later posted on X, “I don't think I have been in a commentary box with a corporate leader of this stature. Loves cricket, is extraordinarily down-to-earth. #SundarPichai.”

Meanwhile, Day 4 is set to be enthralling as the match is balanced with England needing 324 runs to win and India needing nine wickets to level the series.
