Goa has sought to defer hosting National Games owing to the possibility of early assembly elections Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar said today.

PANAJI: Goa has sought to defer hosting National Games owing to the possibility of early assembly elections, Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar said today.

"The National Games were tentatively finalised from November 5-19. However, due to the possibility of an early Assembly elections, the state has requested the Indian Olympic Association to defer the hosting of the Games to a later date," Tawadkar said.

The minister was replying to question tabled on the floor of the House by Congress legislator Digambar Kamat.

He said the state government has already received an amount of Rs 97.80 crore from the Central government.

Another proposal for additional financial assistance has been also forwarded to the Sports Ministry which was followed post the Central Government officials visit headed by the Joint Secretary (Sports) in July 2015.
