India to take on two-time World champions Uruguay in high-profile football friendly on October 6

India are set to host two-time FIFA World Cup winners Uruguay in a high-profile international friendly at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata, on October 6.

The Uruguay game will be India's third marquee friendly during the upcoming FIFA window. The national side will first take on Panama in Bengaluru on September 26 before meeting five-time world champions Brazil in Kolkata on October 3.

Uruguay's visit will give Indian football fans the opportunity to watch another established World Cup nation in the space of a few days. The South American side, known as La Celeste, currently occupy the 20th position in the FIFA world rankings.


The fixture against Uruguay will come just three days after India's clash with Brazil, making Kolkata the centre of attention for international football during the window.
