Faster than Formula 1 car: Indian shuttler Satwik creates Guinness World record for fastest smash at 565km/h

Star Indian badminton player, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, has achieved a remarkable feat by establishing a new Guinness World Record for the fastest hit by a male player in badminton. Clocking an astounding smash at 565 km/h, Satwik surpassed the previous record set by Malaysian player Tan Boon Heong in May 2013, who had recorded a speed of 493 km/h (306.34 mph).

This exceptional accomplishment comes closely after Satwik and his partner Chirag Shetty's victory at the Indonesia Open Super 1000. Notably, Satwik's incredible smash speed even surpassed the top speed of 372.6 km/h achieved by a Formula 1 car.

Meanwhile, Malaysia's Tan Pearly holds the Guinness world record for the fastest female badminton hit, achieving a remarkable speed of 438 km/h (about 272 mph).


In an official release, Yonex, the Japanese sports equipment manufacturing company, expressed pride in announcing that their badminton athletes, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy (IND) and Tan Pearly (MAS), had set new Guinness world records for the fastest male and female badminton hits, respectively.

It is worth noting that since the previous Guinness world record for the fastest badminton hit was set in May 2013, Satwik's achievement marks the breaking of the record for the first time in over a decade.

The world record attempts took place on April 14, 2023, and were meticulously verified by official judges from the Guinness world records, who based their assessments on the speed measurement results from that particular day.

Satwik's record-breaking smash was conducted in a controlled environment at the Yonex factory gymnasium in Soka, Saitama, Japan, further solidifying his position as an extraordinary talent in the world of badminton.
