Former England middle-order batter Kevin Pietersen made a big statement on England’s first innings, first-day score against India in the opening Test in Hyderabad. As soon as Pietersen posted the statement on X, formerly Twitter, cricket fans began to troll him.

Earlier today, England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and decided to bat first.

England made a positive start to their innings with Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley playing some fine shots, but soon India's premier spinner Ravichandran Ashwin got the better of them and both were sent back to the pavillion. England's number 3 batter, Ollie Pope, made a horrible start to his India campaign as he was forced to play Ravindra Jadeja's briliant delivery and ended up getting out at 1. England have scored 80-3 in 20 overs so far.

Pietersen, who is also one of the commentators in the ongoing series, made a bold statement about England’s declaration on Day 1 itself.

‘England bat. 450/9 declared today?” he wrote.

A lot has been said about England's fast-paced Bazball coming into this five-match series. But India's spin-friendly wickets will pose a big challenge to English batters.

India must be wary of the fact that it was England that trounced them at home in a test series when Alastair Cook’s side won 2-1 in 2012–13. Since that series loss, India has only lost three of 44 home tests, maintaining an unbeaten streak in any test series at home.
