‘Dream fulfilled’: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gets India jersey, says words can’t describe the feeling

India's newest cricketing sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi described receiving his maiden India jersey as the fulfilment of a lifelong dream, capping a remarkable rise that has turned the 15-year-old into one of the most talked-about talents in world cricket.

In a video shared by the BCCI on X, the teenage batting prodigy struggled to put his emotions into words as he reflected on the journey from practising at local grounds to earning a place in the national setup.

“I mean, words cannot explain it. The reason I picked up a bat from day one and went to the cricket ground for practice, today that dream was fulfilled, and the biggest step in that journey was completed today. I truly cannot put this feeling into words,” Sooryavanshi said.

The youngster revealed that the moment he first saw the India jersey was surreal.

“It felt just like a dream. The moment I saw that T-shirt, I couldn't stop smiling. Sometimes, something happens that you never even imagined could happen, and when it finally does, you don't know how to react. That was exactly how I felt,” he added.

Sooryavanshi's emotional milestone comes days after he was named in India's T20I squads for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, while also earning selection for the Asian Games contingent.

With the call-up, the Bihar-born batter became the youngest player ever selected for the Indian national team, eclipsing a record held by Sachin Tendulkar for more than three decades. Tendulkar had made his India debut at the age of 16 against Pakistan in 1989.

The teenager's selection has been backed by extraordinary performances on the field. Earlier this month, he produced another statement innings in the tri-series final between India A and Sri Lanka A at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, hammering 94 off just 29 deliveries.

In the process, Sooryavanshi smashed the fastest half-century in List A cricket history, reaching the landmark in only 11 balls and surpassing the previous record of a 12-ball fifty set by Sri Lanka's Kaushalya Weeraratne.

The knock was the latest highlight in a breakthrough year that has seen the youngster emerge as one of Indian cricket's brightest prospects. His sensational IPL 2026 campaign for Rajasthan Royals played a key role in accelerating his rise, with Sooryavanshi amassing 776 runs at a staggering strike rate of 237.30.

He finished as the tournament's leading run-scorer and rewrote several records along the way, including a tally of 72 sixes. His dominant season also earned him a clean sweep of major individual honours, including the Orange Cap, Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player, Super Striker and Super Sixes awards.

With India set to begin a busy white-ball schedule against Ireland and England in the coming weeks, expectations around the teenage phenomenon continue to soar. For now, however, Sooryavanshi is savouring a moment he had dreamed about since he first picked up a bat; wearing the India colours and taking the next step in what is shaping up to be an extraordinary cricketing journey.
