At the toss, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad shared an update on Dhoni’s fitness, stating that the veteran wicketkeeper-batter is recovering steadily but the team is being careful with his return. “He is getting back slowly. If he’s ready, he should be back soon,” Gaikwad said.
Earlier, CSK confirmed that Dhoni is dealing with a calf strain and is currently undergoing rehabilitation. The franchise indicated that he is expected to miss at least the first two weeks of IPL 2026, keeping fans waiting for his comeback.
Despite not featuring on the field, Dhoni continues to play a key role within the squad. Head coach Stephen Fleming emphasised that his influence remains strong, adding that his presence is still felt in the dressing room and team environment.
When could MS Dhoni return?
If his recovery progresses as planned, Dhoni could return when CSK take on Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14 in Chennai.
