Desai suspended again a day after being reinstated as GCA secretary

Desai was suspended on May 30 by the GCA after he walked out of a meeting and was charged with insubordination.

PANAJI: A day after reinstating its secretary Chetan Desai amid high drama, the Goa Cricket Association ( GCA) suspended him once again today.

GCA President Dr Shekhar Salkar claimed that a group of 100 people led by Desai had forced him to sign a document reinstating Desai on the chair yesterday.

"I had no other option but to sign the document as it was concerning my security. Today we have suspended him again," he said.

Desai was suspended on May 30 by the GCA after he walked out of a meeting and was charged with insubordination. He is also a probe into a fraud case.

The GCA managing committee election is scheduled on June 28, which has triggered a politics in the cricketing body.

Desai had challenged his suspension before the Goa Bench of Bombay high court.

Salkar said GCA in its affidavit has informed the court that Desai has been suspended and managing committee will take the decision on his fate on June 20.

"I cannot change the decision now as I have already informed the court. He might be reinstated by outgoing managing committee on June 20, but before that my order to suspend him stands intact," he said.

Drama had unfolded at the GCA office near here yesterday when a group of around 100 people allegedly forced Salkar to 'reinstate' its ousted secretary Desai.

The group, led by Desai and former president Vinod Fadke, had barged into GCA's office where Salkar was scheduled to address a press conference in the evening, and questioned the ouster of Desai from the managing committee.

They were also upset over GCA's decision to not allow several clubs to vote in forthcoming polls to the cricketing body.

GCA had allowed only 64 out of 104 clubs to vote in the GCA's managing committee election to be held on June 28.
