Delhi Capitals end disappointing season on a high; beat Punjab Kings by six wickets

The race for the top 2 intensifies in IPL 2025 as Delhi Capitals beat Punjab Kings by six wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday.

DC chased a massive total of 207 runs to make Punjab's chances of making it to the top 2 a little harder. Uncapped player Sameer Rizvi registered his first IPL half century to score 58 runs off just 25 balls, including three fours and five sixes to take his team across the finish line with three balls to spare. Karun Nair, who got a Test call up after eight years earlier in the day, scored 44 runs off 27 balls. The openers gave a solid start, with KL Rahul scoring 35 runs off 21 balls and stand-in skipper Faf du Plessis 23 runs. The two added 55 runs for the first wicket. Afghan debutant Sediqullah Atal scored crucial 22 runs with two sixes in the middle overs. Tristan Stubbs remained unbeaten on 18 runs.

For PBKS, Harpreet Brar picked up two wickets. However, none of the other bowlers were effective and leaked runs in excess of 10 an over.


Earlier, Punjab Kings captain led from the front and scored 53 runs off 34 balls as his team finished with 206/8 in 20 overs against Delhi Capitals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday,

While Iyer navigated the middle overs, it was Marcus Stoinis who played a stunning cameo in the death overs, scoring 44 runs off just 16 balls, including three fours and four sixes. Opener Prabhsimran Singh got the team off to a decent start after an early wicket and scored 28 runs off 18 balls. Josh Inglis, who batted at 3, smashed 32 runs off just 12 balls to maximise the powerplay. His innings included three fours and two sixes.

For DC, Mustafizur Rahman proved to be a worthy replacement for Mitchell Starc, registering figures of 3/33 in four overs. Spin duo of Vipraj Nigam and Kuldeep Yadav bagged two wickets each, but both conceded over nine an over.

Punjab will next face Mumbai Indians in the race to seal a spot in the top-two to get a second chance to play in the final. Delhi Capitals ended a disappointing season after having started it with four wins in as many matches.
