Ahead of the auction, DC retained four core players: Axar Patel (Rs 16.50 crore), Kuldeep Yadav (Rs 13.25 crore), Tristan Stubbs (Rs 10 crore), and Abhishek Porel (Rs 4 crore). This left them with Rs 73 crore, the third-highest purse among the 10 franchises, to build their squad for the upcoming season.

In 17 IPL seasons, the Delhi-based franchise has reached the knockout stage six times and appeared in one final, in 2020. That year, under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, they made their maiden appearance in the final but were defeated by Rohit Sharma's formidable Mumbai Indians, losing by five wickets.

Prior to the mega-auction, Delhi Capitals made a surprising change in their coaching staff by parting ways with legendary Australian captain Ricky Ponting, ending a successful seven-year association. Going forward, Hemang Badani will take over as the head coach, with Venugopal Rao stepping in as the Director of Cricket.
