Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Daniel Vettori has praised young spinner Harsh Dubey, calling him a smart bowler with the potential to grow into a strong all-rounder. Dubey, who was not picked in the IPL mega auction earlier this year, was later brought in by SRH as a replacement for the injured Ravichandran Smaran.

Dubey made a strong impact in the three games he played this season, all of which SRH won. He took five wickets in three matches with an impressive average of 19.60.

"We’re very pleased with what he’s done since joining the team," Vettori said. The former New Zealand spinner added that Dubey understands conditions well, bowls smartly, and brings much-needed control to the side.

Vettori also highlighted Dubey’s future: "He’ll get a lot of chances to play more cricket before the next IPL, for India A or his domestic team. We believe he can improve both as a bowler and a batter."

Strong IPL Finish

Dubey made his IPL debut against Lucknow Super Giants, picking up one wicket for 44 runs. He made headlines in the next game by dismissing star batter Virat Kohli just before his half-century.

In the final league match against Kolkata Knight Riders, Dubey was at his best, taking three big wickets, Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, and Ramandeep Singh. SRH went on to win the match by 110 runs.

Before joining the IPL, Dubey had already impressed in domestic cricket. He broke the Ranji Trophy record for most wickets in a single season with 69 wickets, beating Ashutosh Aman's 68 in 2018-19.

He also proved himself with the bat, scoring 476 runs in 10 matches, including five half-centuries.

Thanks to his all-round performances, Dubey has been selected for the India A team for their England tour. The team will play two first-class matches against the England Lions starting May 30.
