Big names go unsold
Several players failed to find a buyer. Raghvi Bist, who has played two T20 Internationals for India, was the first player to go under the hammer. She went unsold at her base price of Rs 30 lakh.
Ayushi Soni also went unsold at Rs 30 lakh. She has played one T20 International and one WPL match in 2025.
England’s Sophia Dunkley, who set the highest base price of Rs 50 lakh, found no buyer either. She played six matches for Gujarat Giants in the first WPL season.
Maharashtra batter Tejal Hasabnis also went unsold. She is known for her big hitting in the middle order and plays alongside Smriti Mandhana for Maharashtra. She is part of India’s ODI squad for the ongoing series against Zimbabwe.
A total of 146 players are in the pool for just 27 slots across the five teams. Of these, 20 are for Indian players and seven for overseas players.
The money is tight. Before the auction, UP Warriorz had the biggest purse at Rs 3.75 crore with eight slots to fill. Mumbai Indians had the smallest at Rs 90 lakh, with six slots and none for overseas players.
Other names in the pool include Indian cricketers Sneh Rana and Sushma Verma, and Australians Grace Harris, Jess Jonassen and Sophie Molineux. The fifth WPL season is scheduled from January 14 to February 7, 2027.
