Former Indian captain and skipper Sourav Ganguly was appointed the head coach of Delhi Capitals for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season.

The move replaces Hemang Badani, who served the team for the 2025 and 2026 IPL seasons.

The ex-cricketer previously served as the team’s advisor in 2019, where he worked alongside the former head coach Ricky Ponting.

The former skipper was appointed as Director of Cricket for JSW Sports and the Delhi Capitals franchise and oversaw all cricketing operations, where his long-standing relationship, where the company's founder Parth Jindal has been key to this appointment, reported ET.

Ganguly is also the head coach of the South African Praetoria Capitals and the latest development would add to his coaching portfolio.

Earlier in a PTI report, the South African team captain Keshav Maharaj said Ganguly had fostered a strong team culture and added that the leadership they built together played a key role in the franchise's run to the SA20 finals in 2023.
