Jasprit Bumrah loses No.1 Test bowling rank; here's who dethroned the Indian after two years

Jasprit Bumrah's long reign as the world's No.1 Test bowler ended Wednesday, with Australia pacer Mitchell Starc taking the top position for the first time in his career after his match-winning performance against Bangladesh.

Bumrah had held the No.1 ranking for much of the past two years after first reaching the top in February 2024. His absence from India's ongoing World Test Championship series against Sri Lanka, combined with Starc's 10-wicket haul in the second Test against Bangladesh in Mackay, led to the change at the top.

The 36-year-old Starc climbed two places to move past Bumrah and New Zealand's Matt Henry and claim the No.1 position for the first time.

Starc took 10 wickets in the second Test against Bangladesh and was named Player of the Series. He had entered the top three following his performances against England in the Ashes series towards the end of last year, but had never previously reached No.1 during his 15-year Test career.

Bumrah has now slipped to second, while Henry is third.

Australia captain Pat Cummins also moved up one place to fourth after taking six wickets in the match against Bangladesh. Fellow Australian spinner Nathan Lyon climbed two places to 10th.

England pacers make big gains

England's Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue also made significant moves in the Test bowling rankings after their performances against Pakistan in the first Test at Headingley.

The pair took 16 wickets between them as England secured a comprehensive victory in Leeds.

Robinson jumped 15 places to 11th, while Tongue climbed 16 spots to 17th.

Rishabh Pant rises in Test batting rankings

There was no change at the top of the Test batting rankings, with England's Harry Brook and Joe Root continuing to occupy first and second place.

Australia's Steve Smith and Travis Head remain third and fourth respectively.

India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was the biggest mover inside the top 10. He climbed six places to joint-seventh after scoring a quickfire half-century in the second innings of India's win over Sri Lanka in Galle.

Outside the top 10, Australia's Cameron Green moved up nine places to 21st. Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva climbed two spots to joint-22nd, while Pakistan's Abdullah Shafique rose seven places to joint-27th.

India's KL Rahul also moved up five places to 30th.

Ravindra Jadeja retains No.1 all-rounder spot

India's Ravindra Jadeja continued to hold the No.1 position in the Test all-rounder rankings.

Cummins moved up one place to seventh, while Green climbed one spot to joint-17th. England's Robinson rose five places to 23rd.

The latest rankings leave Starc at the top of the Test bowling chart, ending Bumrah's extended stay at No.1.
