After enduring an 18-match stretch in the format without crossing 40, the 35-year-old returned to his destructive best with a sensational 131 off just 59 balls, featuring eight sixes. It was Buttler's second T20I century and laid the foundation for England's imposing total.
Buttler and captain Harry Brook stitched together a record 233-run partnership for England in T20 internationals. Brook remained unbeaten on 95 as the hosts posted 257/3, their second-highest total in T20Is.
India, whose arrival at the ground was delayed after getting stuck in traffic, never looked in contention during the chase. Ishan Kishan top-scored with 56, but the visitors finished on 201/8 as left-arm seamer Sam Curran claimed 3/36.
The teams will now shift focus to a three-match ODI series, beginning in Birmingham on Tuesday. The series could mark Virat Kohli's final tour of England, with the batting great having already retired from Test and T20I cricket.
