India fielding coach T. Dilip unlikely to get extension, BCCI wants to continue with Morkel-Ryan

New Delhi, The two-year contracts for head coach Gautam Gambhir's team of support staff will come to an end after the current white ball tour of England with fielding coach T Dilip, unlikely to get any more extension.

It must be mentioned that pace bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate's two-year terms also come to an end but they have a provision for extension. At least from BCCI's perspective, they would like to continue with the duo.

Dilip, who came in as a part of Rahul Dravid's coaching team, has been a popular member and will be fondly remembered for his morale boosting speeches and the introduction of the 'Best Fielder Medal' after every game.


He was the only member who continued after Dravid, Vikram Rathour and Paras Mhambrey ended their tenure post the 2024 T20 World Cup triumph. After the Champions Trophy victory in 2025, he was given an year's extension but it is highly unlikely that he would be given another one-year term.

India's fielding standards have dipped under Dilip over the past few months and the BCCI would want a reset.

Under Morkel, Indian bowling attack has done a decent job over the past two years and with an important tour against New Zealand at the end of the year and the ODI World Cup in South Africa, Gambhir would definitely want BCCI to retain his trusted lieutenant.

Among Gambhir's team of support staff, the most fascinating character has to be former Netherlands skipper and KKR all-rounder Ten Doeschate.
