India vs Thailand: Shafali Verma stars as India beat Thailand by 94 runs

Dubai: India crushed Thailand by 94 runs to make a winning start to their Group A campaign in the Women's T20 Asia Cup here on Sunday.

After setting a 160-run target, Indian spinners Deepti Sharma (3/0) and Shree Charani (2/10) ran through the Thailand batting, whereas seamer Nandani Sharma also produced an impactful 4-0-18-3.

Earlier in the first half, India were bolstered by Shafali Verma's 36-ball 64 with eight fours and three sixes but a batting collapse left them in a precarious position.

India were cruising at 108 for two at one stage before slipping to 137 for nine.

Brief scores: India Women 159/9 in 20 overs (Shafali Verma 64; Suleeporn Laomi 3/26, Sunida Chaturongrattana 2/31) beat Thailand Women 65 in 16.1 overs (Nannapat Koncharoenkai 41; Nandani Sharma 3/18, Shree Charani 2/10, Deepti Sharma 3/0) by 94 runs.
