Thanks to seasoned campigner Mushfiqur Rahim's gritty 38(46) and Mahmudullah's power-hitting helping him swiftly score 46 (36) in death overs, Bangladesh managed to put 256/8 on board in their 50 overs during the ICC Cricket World Cup match against India at Pune's MCA Stadium on Thursday.

Bangladesh made a slow start to the match but then picked up pace as both openers, Tanzid Hasan 51 (43) and Litton Das 66 (82) scored fifties to break the record for the highest opening stand for Bangladesh in ODI World Cups.

Just when Tanzid was looking in ominous touch, he fell to Kuldeep leg-before on 51 off 43 in the 15th over, and the parternship got broken on 93. Soon after, Ravindra Jadeja repeated the feat for India by trapping Bangladesh's stand-in skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto, for 8 (17).

Bangladesh suffered a mid-innings slump, losing four wickets for 36 runs after a solid start.

Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah picked up two wickets each for India. Hardik Pandya limped off the field after sustaining an ankle injury while bowling.

Brief scores: Bangladesh: 256/8 in 50 overs (Litton Das 66, Tanzid Hasan 51; Mahmudullah 46, Ravindra Jadeja 2/38, Mohammed Siraj 2/60, Jasprit Bumrah 2/41).

In a worrying development for India, all-rounder Hardik Pandya was taken to the hospital for scans after he twisted his ankle and fell heavily in his follow-through before he hobbled off after bowling three deliveries in his first over in the match against Bangladesh.

"Hardik Pandya's injury is being assessed at the moment and he is being taken for scans," the BCCI informed in a post through its official handle on X, formerly Twitter.

Pandya twisted his left ankle and fell heavily in his follow-through after bowling the third delivery of the team's ninth over.
