Virat Kohli reached a remarkable milestone in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) on Thursday, equaling Mohammad Azharuddin's record for the most catches by an Indian in the format.

Kohli achieved this feat during India's Champions Trophy clash against Bangladesh in Dubai, with his 156th ODI catch coming in the 43rd over.

The catch was off Jaker Ali’s top-edge from Mohammed Shami’s delivery at long-on.

With this, Kohli and Azharuddin now share the record for the most ODI catches by an Indian. Following them on the list are Sachin Tendulkar with 140, Rahul Dravid with 124, and Suresh Raina with 102.

On the global scale, Kohli and Azharuddin are ranked just behind Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene, who holds the record with 218 catches, and Australia's Ricky Ponting, with 160.

In the same match, Mohammed Shami also made history by becoming the fastest Indian to reach 200 ODI wickets. He surpassed Zaheer Khan's record to become India's leading wicket-taker in ICC white-ball tournaments, with 60 wickets to his name.

Bangladesh, who were struggling at 35 for 5, found some resilience in the partnership between Jaker Ali and Towhid Hridoy. Hridoy’s brilliant knock of 100 helped them recover and reach a respectable total of 228.
