Dubai: Pakistan's Imam-ul-Haq plays a shot during the Champions Trophy 2025 cricket match match between India and Pakistan, in Dubai.
Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq had a forgettable outing in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash against India, getting run out in the most bizarre fashion after scoring just 10 runs off 26 balls. His dismissal, which had shades of his uncle Inzamam-ul-Haq’s infamous run-outs, left fans in splits and triggered a meme fest on social media.

Axar Patel’s bullet throw catches Imam off guard

Imam seemed to have pressed the self-destruct button when he casually ran towards the non-striker’s end after hitting the ball straight to Axar Patel at mid-on. Perhaps unaware of the danger, he failed to pick up speed as Axar’s direct hit crashed into the stumps. Though Imam put in a desperate dive at the last moment, it was too little, too late.

His dismissal came at a crucial moment for Pakistan, who were already under pressure in the must-win match against their arch-rivals. To make matters worse, he was only playing this game because Fakhar Zaman was ruled out due to an injury. Safe to say, Pakistan would have wanted a much better contribution from his replacement.

Social media reacts: “Like uncle, like nephew”

As soon as Imam walked back to the pavilion, social media went wild, drawing hilarious comparisons between him and his uncle, former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, who had his fair share of comedy run-outs during his career. From throwback clips of Inzamam’s legendary mix-ups to memes comparing their running styles, fans had a field day with Imam’s latest blunder.

Pakistan opts to bat first, but Imam fails to deliver

Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan had won the toss and chosen to bat first, hoping to put up a strong total against India. Before the match, he said, "We will bat first, looks like a good surface. Want to put up a good target. Every match is important in ICC events, we will keep things normal."

However, Imam’s dismissal did not help Pakistan’s cause as they struggled against a fiery Indian bowling attack. His early exit piled pressure on the team in what was already a high-stakes encounter.
