Rain plays spoilsport
The Champions Trophy 2025 match between Australia and South Africa was washed out due to persistent rain in Rawalpindi on Tuesday. The two teams shared a point each as the match was declared "no-result'.

ICC took to X to confirm the match had been abandoned due to continuous rain in Rawalpindi and wrote, "Incessant rain forces the Group B #ChampionsTrophy contest between Australia and South Africa to be called off."

The tournament has gotten interesting with the result. The match between England and Afghanistan on Wednesday now becomes a virtual knockout match, and the one losing it would be the third team to be out of Champions Trophy 2025. South Africa and Australia are now on three points each, occupying Group B's first and second spots, respectively.

Even though the official cut-off time for a 20-over match was 8:00 pm IST, the match was called off much earlier as there had been persistent rain from the morning and it was near impossible to get the ground ready for play within the stipulated time even if the rain had stopped.

However, with rain continuing and no signs of stopping, the officials declared that the match has been called off two hours before the stipulated time.

This is Australia's fourth washed out match in last seven Champions Trophy matches dating back to 2013.

Australia will now prepare to face Afghanistan on Friday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. South Africa will play its final group-stage game against England on Saturday at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi.

The Australia began their campaign by pulling off a record 352-run chase against England. On the other hand, South Africa sailed to a 107-run victory against Afghanistan in a one-sided affair.
