MUMBAI: Bollywood stars Farhan Akhtar, Anupam Kher, Rahul Bose among others have condoled the death of promising Australian batsman Philip Hughes, who succumbed to head injuries during a match.

The 25-year-old cricketer, who was in contention for a Test recall for the coming series against India, died at the St Vincent's Hospital, where he was battling for life after being hit on the head by a bouncer from Sean Abbott.

Bollywood celebrities took to Twitter to express their grief. Actor-director Farhan Akhtar tweeted, " Phil Hughes Rest in Peace. Sean Abbott Live in Peace."

Veteran actor Anupam Kher, wrote, "How tragic and sad. Shocking."

Actor Rahul Bose, while grieving for Hughes' loss, urged everyone to show support for Abbott.

"Let us resolve to stand by Sean Abbott too, at this time. It's a sport and he mustn't blame himself for what happened. RIPPhilHughes," he tweeted.

Actor Arbaaz Khan, said, "Extremely saddened by the news that Australian cricketer Phil Hughes passes away after being struck by a bouncer. RIP Phil Hughes."
