With this innings, Duckett etched his name in history as the first batter to score 150 runs in a Champions Trophy match, surpassing the previous record in his team’s opening game of the 2025 edition. In his innings, Duckett also smashed 17 fours and 3 sixes. He reached the milestone in just 132 balls, guiding England past 300 despite wickets tumbling at the other end.
The previous highest individual score in the tournament was New Zealand's Nathan Astle’s unbeaten 145 against the USA at The Oval in 2004.
Earlier in the innings, England’s star batter Joe Root notched up his 41st ODI half-century. The prolific run-scorer played a crucial role in stabilizing England’s innings, forging a 150-plus partnership with Duckett after the early dismissals of Philip Salt and Jamie Smith within the first 50 runs.
Root also reached a significant personal milestone, crossing 20,500 runs in ODI cricket.
Alongside Australia, England will face South Africa and Afghanistan in Group B as they continue their Champions Trophy campaign.
