BCCI rights auction bidding crosses Rs 6000 crore; to continue on Thursday

As of 6 pm on Wednesday, the last bid received by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was of Rs 6,032.5 crore. The auction resumed at 11 am today and saw eight rounds of biddings.

As per the future tours programme, there will be 102 international matches during the rights window – April 1, 2018 – March 31, 2023.
MUMBAI: The second day of the historic media rights auction of the India cricket saw aggressive biddings by the three participants, crossing Rs 6,000 crore mark.

As of 6 pm on Wednesday, the last bid received by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was of Rs 6,032.5 crore. The auction resumed at 11 am today and saw eight rounds of biddings.

This is for the first time in the world for media rights of a major sporting property to be e-auctioned.

With the last bid, the per match average payout has already reached at Rs 59.14 crore, way higher than Rs 54.5 crore per match bid for the 5 year global rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which Star India won for a whopping Rs 16,347.5 crore.

As reported earlier by ET, all the three participants - Reliance Jio, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) and Star India – are bidding only for global consolidated rights, which include global television and digital rights of all the cricket matches (international and domestic) hosted by BCCI.
