The BCCI is currently considering whether to proceed with the T10 format or approve it as a T20 league. They are also discussing the possibility of setting an age-cap for the tier-2 league to protect the interest of the established Indian Premier League (IPL). As per brand valuation consultancy Brand Finance report, the total brand value of the Indian Premier League (IPL) grew a whopping 28 per cent after the 2023 season, reaching $10.7 billion (roughly Rs 89,232 crore). The brand value of India's flagship sports event has grown 433% since its launch in 2008.
The Board is also deliberating whether to hold the tournament in India or any new place abroad.
Another point of discussion is to give the current IPL franchise owners the "right to first refusal". This means that before any tenders are issued for a similar league by the BCCI, the IPL franchise owners will have the opportunity to participate.
Currently, the BCCI's focus is on the upcoming IPL auction, which is scheduled to take place in Dubai on December 19.
Meanwhile, recently Saudi Arabia expressed its interest in collaborating with the Indian cricket board to boost tourism in the gulf country. A mobile tournament, searching for a host country in the Gulf region to support its forthcoming financial growth, aligns well with the potential requirements of a recently suggested project.
BCCI is one of the richest sports body in the world along with the National Basketball Association or the English Premier League.
