After a meeting of the committee of administrators, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri sent a letter to the ICC, pointing out that the logo that cricketer used on his gloves was neither commercial nor religious, and that he be allowed to continue wearing it.
“Rahul has sent a letter to the ICC seeking permission for Dhoni,” said a BCCI insider. “The ball is in ICC’s court. According to the rule, you can sport a non-commercial logo, but you must take prior permission. As Dhoni did not take prior permission, there is the whole hue and cry,” he added.
Earlier, the ICC had asked the BCCI to get the sign removed, saying that it was against regulations.
Dhoni is an honorary lieutenant colonel in the Parachute Regiment of the Territorial Army. While playing against South Africa at Southampton on Wednesday, he wore green wicket-keeping gloves, embossed with the regimental dagger insignia.
