Sept 23 (The Sports Xchange) - New York Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard will miss Saturday's scheduled start due to a case of strep throat.

It is the latest blow for New York's starting rotation. On Thursday, the Mets announced Steven Matz was scratched due to discomfort in his shoulder while Jacob deGrom and Matt Harvey are out for the season.

New York manager Terry Collins said he is hopeful that Syndergaard will be able to pitch in "a couple days."

Sean Gilmartin will make the start in place of Syndergaard.

Chicago White Sox minor league pitcher Yojensy Arias was suspended 72 games Friday for violating the league's drug policy.

Arias, a left-hander, tested positive for hydrochlorothiazide, a performance-enhancing substation that violates the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The 23-year-old Arias made 10 starts in the Dominican Summer League, failing to record a decision while posting a 3.54 ERA. He had 45 strikeouts and nine walks in 40 2/3 innings.

Arias had been out of baseball for two years after spending the 2012 and 2013 seasons with the Kansas City Royals' club in the Dominican Summer League. His suspension will go into effect at the beginning of the 2017 DSL season.
