BWF unveils 2027-28 calendar; India Open moves to February next year

The BWF has shifted the India Open Super 750 to February for the 2027 season, with the tournament scheduled from February 2-7 in New Delhi. The event will return to its traditional January slot in 2028, to be held from January 25-30, according to the 2027-28 World Tour calendar released on Tuesday.

The move comes after the 2026 India Open, held in January, drew criticism from leading international players over poor air quality, low indoor temperatures and venue hygiene.

The Syed Modi India International, now a Super 100 tournament after its downgrade, will be staged in Lucknow from July 27-August 1 in 2027 and July 25-30 in 2028.

The BWF calendar features 35 World Tour events each year, from Super 1000 to Super 100 level, besides the season-ending World Tour Finals.

Five Super 1000 tournaments will headline the circuit across Asia and Europe. These events will be played over 11 days across two weekends and will feature a new format comprising a 48-player singles draw with a group stage followed by knockouts, and a 32-pair doubles knockout draw. The BWF said all 1,095 matches across the Super 1000 events will be broadcast globally.
