Rewards are flowing in for ace shuttler Saina Nehwal after her brilliant performance in the All England Open Championship in March.

NEW DELHI: The government has rewarded badminton star Saina Nehwal with Rs 25 lakh for reaching the final of the prestigious Saina Nehwal with Rs 25 lakh for reaching the final of the prestigious All England Open Championship in March.All England Open Championship in March.

"Cash Award has been given to Ms. Nehwal from the Ministry's Scheme of Special Awards to Medal Winners in International Sports Events and their Coaches," a release from the Sports Ministry said.


The 25-year-old Saina had become the first Indian woman shuttler to reach the finals of All England Open Badminton Championships but lost to Spain's Carolina Marin 21-16, 14-21, 7-21 in the summit clash.

She became world number one player following her stupendous title win in the Indian Open.
