A star is born: Meet 19-year-old Gongadi Trisha, who helped India bag Women's U19 T20 Asia Cup

Gongadi Trisha has left a decisive impression on the international stage, becoming a key player for India in the inaugural Under-19 Women's Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The 19-year-old’s brilliant performance helped India finish unbeaten in the tournament, and her standout knock in the final played a key role in their victory.

Trisha, who finished as the top scorer of the tournament with 159 runs from five innings at an average of 53 and a strike rate of 120.45, was a standout performer for India.


Her consistency with the bat, especially during the Super Fours, helped India secure crucial wins. After a rough start with a duck against Pakistan, she found her rhythm with an unbeaten 17 against Nepal and then a match-winning 58 against Bangladesh.

In the next Super Four match, she contributed with 32 runs against Sri Lanka, ensuring India finished atop the points table.

The final against Bangladesh was where Trisha truly shone. Scoring 52 runs off 47 balls, including five fours and two sixes, Trisha’s knock guided India to a competitive total of 117 for seven.

India’s bowlers then restricted Bangladesh to 76 runs in 18.3 overs, handing India a 41-run victory. Trisha was not only named Player of the Match but also took home the Player of the Tournament award.

This victory adds to Trisha’s growing legacy. Last year, she was a part of the Indian squad that clinched the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.

Throughout the tournament, she scored 116 runs in seven matches, with her best knock being 57 off 51 balls against Scotland. In the final, Trisha contributed 24 runs off 29 balls, helping India successfully chase down England’s 69 runs.

Trisha, who also plays for Hyderabad in domestic cricket, is making her mark as one of India's most promising young talents in women's cricket.
