Croatia, finalists in the last World Cup, see their knockout run extended this time around in a game that went into extra time and then into penalties - the third time in this tournament, two of which have featured the Croatians.

Penalties saw the Croatians emerge victorious 4-2, causing Brazil to crash out at this stage of the tournament for the fourth time in five World Cups.

Brazil came into the tie unchanged from their round of 16 match against South Korea - which they won 4-1 - hoping to replicate the style and sensation of the game but failed to be as effective, needing extra time to score but were almost immediately pegged back by Bruno Petkovic's goal.
