Space sector has been opened up to 'exponentially innovate': PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that 75 years after Independence, the space sector had been opened up in the country for corporate houses, start-ups as well as the academia to come together to ‘exponentially innovate’ in order to deliver solutions even to the remotest corners of the country and the also the most marginalised segments of the society.

“India, in its 75th year of independence, by opening the space sector has gifted the industry and the academia an opportunity to tap into this futuristic area,” the Prime Minister said at the inaugural address of the Indian Space Association on Monday.

Modi, who heard a plethora of suggestions from corporate houses including Sunil Bharti MIttal, chairman of Bharti Airtel and PJ Nath from Nelco, a Tata Enterprise along with Rohan Verma of MapmyIndia and a bunch of startups said his government will work closely with the industry to resolve the issues plaguing the private sector. The industry mostly flagged concerts regarding long and tedious regulatory approvals as an impediment.


Modi said ISRO, which was one of the handful of globally end-to-end capable space institutions, would work as an aggregator to help the private sector by lending its assets for the private sector to deploy and further innovate upon.
