NASA releases UFO report and says will require new scientific techniques
Science fiction fans have always found themselves inclined towards the subject of aliens and UFOs. NASA on Thursday released a 33-page report on UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) unveiling some key insights from its research.

Releasing the report, the US space agency said the study of UFOs will require new scientific techniques, including advanced satellites as well as a shift in how unidentified flying objects are perceived.

Here are the key findings of the report:

  • NASA said at this point there is no reason to conclude that existing UAP reports have an extraterrestrial source. However, if we acknowledge that as one possibility, then those objects must have traveled through our solar system to get here.
  • The report called UFOs one of the planet’s greatest “mysteries”.
  • Nasa also said it is naming a new director of research into UAPs, as an expert panel urged the space agency increase its efforts to gather information on them.
  • Nasa said there are so few high-quality observations [of UFOs] that no scientific conclusions can be drawn.
  • Despite numerous accounts and visuals, the absence of consistent, detailed, and curated observations means we do not presently have the body of data needed to make definitive, scientific conclusions about UAP, the report said.
  • The report said that while Nasa's fleet of Earth-observing satellites typically lack the spatial resolution to detect relatively small objects such as UAP, their state-of-the-art sensors can be directly utilized to probe the state of the local earth, oceanic, and atmospheric conditions that are spatially and temporally coincident with UAPs initially detected via other methods.
  • The report included some UAP cases that previously came to light in the Pentagon's release of video from naval aviators showing enigmatic aircraft off the US East and West Coasts exhibiting speed and maneuverability exceeding known aviation technologies and lacking any visible means of propulsion or flight-control surfaces. The report said defence and intelligence analysts lacked sufficient data to determine the nature of some of the objects.
  • It said that the US space agency's assets can play a vital role by directly determining whether specific environmental factors are associated with certain reported UAP behaviors or occurrences.
The US government refers to unexplained sightings as UAPs versus UFOs. NASA defines them as observations in the sky or elsewhere that cannot be readily identified or scientifically explained.

The study was launched a year ago and cost under $100,000.

“Data is the critical lifeblood needed to advance scientific exploration, and we thank the independent study team members for lending NASA their expertise towards identifying what available data is possible to understand the nature and origin of future UAP,” said Nicola Fox, associate administrator, Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, in a statement.
