ISRO's SpadeX Chaser satellite captures first video of Earth from space ahead of historic docking

SpadeX's Chaser satellite has successfully captured its first video of Earth from space, offering a breathtaking view of the planet's vibrant oceans and swirling clouds.

The video, released on Saturday by ISRO on X, records a significant milestone for the Indian space agency's ambitious autonomous docking mission.

The Chaser satellite is a key component of SpadeX's groundbreaking program designed to test advanced autonomous docking technology. It was launched in December.


The footage was taken as the satellite orbited Earth from an altitude of around 400 kilometers, showcasing both its advanced imaging capabilities and its readiness for the mission's next crucial phase.

Mission SpaDeX, explained

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is preparing for a historic joint docking operation with Chaser, set to take place on January 7.

This operation will be India's first collaborative space docking exercise.

The mission's goal is to demonstrate precise navigation and secure docking in orbit—technologies critical for future space station assembly and the expansion of deep-space exploration capabilities.

ISRO’s indigenous spacecraft, equipped with state-of-the-art docking ports and maneuvering systems, will carry out the rendezvous with Chaser as part of a highly coordinated sequence.

The docking process involves real-time coordination of velocities and trajectories, a challenging task that demands flawless execution.

The completion of this mission will be a major step forward in India's space exploration efforts.
