Isro takes off from shoulders of unsung giants

The success of Chandrayaan-3 is as much a testament of Indian Space Research Organisation's commitment and scientific prowess as it is of the enterprises that contributed to the lunar mission.

Whether it is Chakradhara Aerospace & Cargo Pvt Ltd (CACPL) tucked away in Coimbatore, or established giants like Tata Consulting Engineers or the government-owned SCL chip unit in Mohali - everyone had their part to play in the Vikram lander touching down the south pole of the moon, a feat that no other country has previously achieved.

CACPL, which is a group company of Lakshmi Machine Works, provided its reaction control system technology, which the company said "played a pivotal role in maintaining precise orientation and stability of the launch vehicle during the critical initial phase".


A company document was shared by the TN industries minister in his tweet on the X platform, soon after India's soft landing on the moon. It said the start valves and bypass valves supplied by Chakradhara served as "the nerve centre of the initial stage, ensuring efficient and reliable functionality during the launch sequence". As per Isro, the mechanical hardware was mainly provided by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, with the Titanium Tanks delivered by Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.

Tata Consulting Engineers has engineered indigenously built critical systems and subsystems custom-built for the successful launch of space missions.
